Title: Director of Discovery Location: Flexible with travel to San Francisco, CA, Vancouver Canada, and other locations. Position: Full-time. Reports to the Chief Technology Officer Company: Nalu Bio is a biotech company creating a new category of chemistry-based cannabinoids for the consumer and pharmaceutical markets. Nalu Bio has developed a proprietary cannabinoid chemical synthesis platform that will set a new industry standard for pure, consistent, and quality cannabinoids. Our innovative chemistry will solve many of the quality and consistency issues that plague cannabis-derived products currently. We have a world-class team highly experienced in healthcare, chemistry, cannabinoids, consumer packaged goods, and drug development. The Role: We are seeking an energetic, creative, and experienced pharmacologist to coordinate and lead our team in the evaluation of our lead molecules. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in pharmacology and early stage drug development in pharma or biotech. The key responsibilities of this role are leading a team to design, optimize, characterize and bring chemical synthesis cannabinoids to market. The Ideal Candidate: ●MS in life sciences (or equivalent). Ph.D. degree in pharmacology (or equivalent) preferred. ●6-9 years experience in pharma, biotech, or life sciences. R&D experience with cannabinoid chemistry and pharmacology are preferred. ●Chemical product characterization experience utilizing in vitro and in vivo assays/models is a must; e.g., pathway elucidation, ADME/DMPK, toxicology, efficacy assays based on target endpoint ●Ensuring project timelines and milestones are met while working seamlessly with our extended team at CRO’s, CMO’s, and development partners ●Strong problem-solving skills and conversant with the current relevant literature ●Proven leadership capability in cross-functional team setting as a project team leader, manager, etc. ●Excellent communication skills and ability to present the rationale, key data, issues and accomplishments of the chemistry and larger drug development efforts to internal and external collaborators ●Contemporary expertise in all aspects of early stage drug development with previous experience with cannabinoid pharmacology, toxicology and the endocannabinoid system ●Experience maintaining budgetary discipline across projects and advocating for additional resources when necessary to adhere to deadlines ●Start-up experience is a plus!
